Dear Oksana
With the Paralympic Winter Games in sight, Gay Masters has a message for her daughter Oksana, the “resilient rascal” who rose above three orphanages, five surgeries, and a childhood in poverty to become a three-time Paralympic medalist. Oksana, a Ukrainian-born American Paralympic rower, cyclist, Nordic skier and biathlete, will return to the Paralympic Games for the fourth time, in hopes of winning gold. In a letter to her adopted daughter, Gay explains how Oksana’s spirit and work ethic inspires everyone around her to throw away expectations of what disability is, and wishes her luck in PyeongChang.
